Taking a Ride on the Lincoln Train

On August 17, 2019 we traveled to the Star Barn in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and took a ride on the Lincoln Train. This beautifully restored steam engine has two cars attached. A passenger car and a reconstructed Lincoln Funeral Car that you leave the train through after your train ride. In this video, we will share with you our ride and exit of the train.

The Lincoln Train is located on the property of the Star Barn, 1 Hollinger Lane,

Elizabethtown, PA 17022

It was a great experience stepping back in time and riding on the reconstructed train that was to simulate the train used to take President Lincoln's body back to Springfield for his final funeral.

In the following video, we will share with you our ride and exit of the train.

We would like to thank our niece Carmella for doing the opening of this video for us.

The current rails extend a 1/2 mile in which you travel about 25 Mpg in one direction, then the train reverses and heads back to the main station. The ride on the train was just under 1/2 hour, in our video above, we only showed the train on the second 1/2 of the journey. The conductor that was making the presentation announcements on the first leg of the trip said that they plan on extended the rain run to 2 1/2 miles in which the train is be able to make a big loop around the Star Barn property.

One thing that should also be mentioned is the rail bed. Which was part of the original train rails that the actual Lincoln Funeral Train road on during the ride from Washington, D.C. back to Springfield, Ill.

The current price to ride the train is $10 and you get to keep the ticket as a souvenir (we have two). Check the Star Barn's website for the operation dates of the train.

If you would like to know more about the Lincoln Assassination and the Lincoln Funeral Train, make sure you check out the live stream we did talking about the whole thing in one of our "Behind the Haunting" Videos.

We would love to go back and take another ride on the train once they get the complete train done (or even have another special event).

As you leave the train, you will exit through a re-constructed Lincoln Funeral car that is decorated with casket and black crepe the way it was when a train transported the body of the slain 16th President from Washington, D.C. to Springfield, Illinois. A lot of detail was put into making the reconstruction car, it was simply amazing.
