Creating Blog Summaries in Weebly

Breaking up your main blog posts in Weebly into summaries on the main page, not only helps with the visual aspect of the page, but also with your SEO efforts so that more people will find your blog posts.
When your main blog page has all of the full blog posts shown, it can become a large page with a lot of information for the reader.   This also hinders your ability to use proper SEO and key phrase optimization since you are not trying to optimize the entire text of the page of many subjects and topics and not just the one blog post.

To fix this issue, I would suggest breaking up your main blog page into summaries, and allow the reader to click "Read More" to see the full blog post.  Also, you can then fully optimize the summary.

This can be accomplished very easily in Weebly.

Now, there are many different ways this can be done, and depending on the style of your blog, you can adapt the following for your needs.   In this post, I am just going to document for you how I setup a blog post and you can see the after effect by browsing this page or our main "Our Haunted Travels" blog page.

The Process
  1. Start a new blog post.
  2. Add the image you would like to use for the post and summary first, at the top of the page.   I add an image first since most automated social media posting services will read that first image.
  3. Add text for the summary.   This text should be short, and you should optimize it for search engines.   I will do a a blog post about that later and link to it here once it is done.
  4. Now, add the "Read More Break" after your summary text.

You then can continue with the rest of your blog.   When this is viewed on your main page, then the summary of the blog will be shown (everything before the break), and when the reader click on the "Read More" the entire page will come up.
This will then allow you to optimize and make just to the specific blog post, and make everything on your main page look a little cleaner.

If you have any questions, please leave me a comment.   If you think this might be useful to others, feel free to share it out.
