Is your site registered with Google? Are you posts being indexed correctly? In this post we will talk about how to register your Weebly site with Google.
Most non-web developers do not realize that you should register your website with Google and to get your site verified via Google Search Engines. This will help with getting your site noticed and indexed in the search engine. No, that whole, "if you build it they will come" thing does not work on the web.
Weebly has a post that walks you through this process here, but I will break it down step-by-step, as I setup this blog site. I do have an added step that is not documented by Weebly that we will talk about towards the end of this post. That is key to getting pages indexed.
Go to your Weebly editor and click on Settings
Add Your Sitemap
A sitemap is a "behind-the-scenes" type file that you do not see and most people don't realize is there actually. This file keeps track of the different pages on your site and blog, and when you add a new post.. it will be automatically updated. The good news is, once you register your site map with Google in the webmaster tools, it will continuously keep checking this file for updates and will modify the indexing our your site accordingly.
Location of your Weebly site sitemap is: <yoursite>/sitemap.xml
Periodically, you can com back to this and make sure you new posts are being indexed and that the dates are being modified.
