Located on the grounds of Monticello is the Monticello Graveyard, and the final resting place of Thomas Jefferson. We visited this location in July of 2017 and payed our respects.
We won't be adding a map to this post, since the only way you can can to the graveyard is if you take a tour of Monticello.
You can actually walk down to the cemetery from the house along a path if you want too, or you can take the transport van down on the way back to the visitor center which is what we did. It was July and the air conditioning of the van for that short amount of time was very welcoming. The van does stop at the front gates of the cemetery. Buried within this cemetery is not only Thomas Jefferson, but several of his decedents as well.
You are not able to go inside the gates of the cemetery, but we did spend some time walking around the entire exterior. There is an iron gate around the entire grounds to keep out those who may cause some harm or disrespect the graves.
