In July of 2017, we once again traveled to Washington, D.C. and got as close as we could to the White House. This was our second attempt, and we will try to get even closer or take a tour next time.
The White House is the official residence and workplace of the president of the United States. It is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. and has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800.
We made it to the location of the national Christmas tree, just south of the White House. Due to security check points and blockades, we couldn't get any closer to the building from this side. Now remember, this was in July, so it was hot. We were on foot and took the metro into the city from Alexandria. On this trip, we were not going to attempt to walk around to the Northern side of the White House, but we got pretty close. We did get close enough to get some good photos with the zoom lens.
We would like to go back and actually take a tour of the White House someday, but according to the National Park Service website, video is not permitted inside the building and you have to apply with your Member of Congress three months to 21 days before your visit. This will have to take some planning to be able to get on this tour.
