Little Mary of the Orpheum

In November of 2008, we traveled to Memphis, Tennessee and one of the locations we stopped at was the famous Orpheum Theatre. Little did we know at the time, the story of the Little Mary who is believed to still visit the theater still today.

The Orpheum Theatre, a 2,308-seat venue listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, on the southwest corner of the intersection of South Main and Beale streets. The Orpheum, along with the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education, compose the Orpheum Theatre Group, a community-supported nonprofit corporation that operates and maintains the venues and presents education programs. The theater is located at 203 S Main St, Memphis, TN 38103.

The Orpheum Theatre is said to be haunted by a pretty little girl with pigtails who was actually killed outside the theater in 1921 when she was struck by a trolley. Ever since her death she has apparently haunted the theater and is most often spotted during performances. She is especially active whenever there are performances that at geared towards children - for obvious reasons! She has become such a fixture at the theater that seat number C5 is never sold. The theater has reserved it permanently for Mary. Aside from watching the performances, Mary has also been known to slam doors and flick the lights on and off. If you would like to learn more about the history of the theater and some more details about little Mary, please watch our following video.

We were by this location on our trip to Memphis in 2008. This was a couple of years before we started researching and investigating the paranormal, so at the time, we were only aware of the historical value of the theater. If we ever return to Memphis, we will be sure to try to get a tour within the building or spend more time there.

Please let us know your thoughts down in the comments below. Have you been to the theater? Have you heard the story of little Mary before? Would you like to visit the theater sometime in the future, or have you already been to the theater? If you have had an experience while inside the theater, please let us know.
