On September 20, 2019, we had some visitors come in from out of town and wanted to take them down to see Lanterman's Mill. We made it in time to go inside for the tour, which we have experienced before; however, this time, we got to see them turn on the wheel.
We have visited the mill on several different occasions and during different seasons. Sometimes when we visit the wheel is off and sometimes the mill is in operation and the while is actually running. We never actually witnessed them starting the wheel up, which was actually a surprised treat for us. In the video below, you can actually witness for yourself if you have never seen something like this before.
One of Mahoning County’s most historic landmarks, Lanterman’s Mill was built in 1845-46 by German Lanterman and Samuel Kimberly. Restored in 1982-85 through a gift from the Ward and Florence Beecher Foundations, this community treasure represents one of the many pioneer industries developed along Mill Creek and operates today as it did in the 1800s, grinding corn, wheat, and buckwheat.
