When we visited Gettysburg in July of 2018, we decided to do a live stream on our YouTube channel while we were driving around the battlefield. During that live stream, we encountered some strange EMF activity around this monument and decided to stop and investigate a little bit further.

Investigating the Major General John Sedgwick Monument

This monument is not around any type of power lines or other power sources; however, strange EMF readings, which also converted over to actual words on our Ovilus device, such as; "coffin", "southern", "borrow" were detected while we were in the area around the monument.

If you would like to watch the video from the investigation, we have provided it below. Please remember that this was a live stream from the battlefield over some weak cell phone signals, so the video quality is not the greatest.

We also stopped and walked around the area a little bit to see if we could pick up anything else there. We have returned to this location several times to see if we could duplicate some of the communication we captured during the live stream. We also seem to capture some type of communication within this area.

If you would like to stop and see if you can capture any communications yourself, you can use the map below to find this location along the battlefield in Gettysburg.

About Major General John Sedgwick

Major General John Sedgwick

Major General John Sedgwick was a prominent Union general during the American Civil War, recognized for his exceptional leadership and significant contributions to several pivotal battles that shaped the outcome of the war. His career was marked by a commitment to his troops and a strategic mind that earned him respect among his peers and subordinates alike. Here are some important aspects of his life and career that highlight his influence and legacy:

Born on September 13, 1813, in Cornwall, New York, John Sedgwick grew up in a family with a rich military tradition, which likely influenced his decision to pursue a career in the armed forces.

He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1837, where he developed a strong foundation in military strategy and leadership principles that would serve him well throughout his career.

Initially, Sedgwick served in the U.S. Army during the Second Seminole War and later participated in the Mexican-American War, where he gained valuable combat experience and honed his skills in field command.

At the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861, Sedgwick quickly joined the Union Army, motivated by a deep sense of duty to preserve the nation and its values. His leadership abilities were recognized early on, leading to his promotion to brigadier general in 1862, a testament to his capabilities and the trust placed in him by his superiors.

During the Battle of Antietam, one of the bloodiest battles in American history, Sedgwick played a significant role in coordinating Union forces and executing strategic maneuvers that ultimately contributed to the Union's tactical advantages. He further distinguished himself in the Battle of Gettysburg, where his command of the VI Corps was instrumental in repelling Confederate attacks and securing a crucial victory for the Union. Later, Sedgwick commanded the VI Corps during the protracted Siege of Petersburg, where his leadership was vital in maintaining morale and effectiveness among the troops as they faced the grueling conditions of trench warfare.

General Sedgwick was well-known for his calm demeanor under pressure, which helped to instill confidence in his troops even during the most chaotic and dangerous situations on the battlefield. His ability to inspire his men was complemented by a reputation for bravery and tactical acumen, as he often led from the front, demonstrating a personal commitment to the safety and success of his soldiers. His leadership style fostered a strong bond of loyalty and respect, making him not only a commander but also a beloved figure among his troops, who admired his dedication and resolve.

Tragically, Major General Sedgwick was fatally wounded on May 9, 1864, during the fierce fighting at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, a battle characterized by brutal combat and high casualties. His last words, reportedly uttered just before he succumbed to his injuries, were, "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance," reflecting his characteristic humor and composure even in the face of death. Following his death, he was buried with full military honors in West Point Cemetery, New York, where he rests among other distinguished military leaders, symbolizing his lasting impact on American history.

One of the most capable generals of the Civil War, Major General John Sedgwick's strategic insights and leadership during critical battles played a pivotal role in favoring the Union. He is honored for his unwavering service and dedication to the Union cause, with numerous historical accounts and memorials celebrating his contributions and sacrifice. His legacy continues to be studied and admired by military historians and enthusiasts, serving as an example of effective leadership and commitment to duty in the face of overwhelming odds.

General Sedgwick's contributions to the Union Army and his ultimate sacrifice are commemorated in various historical accounts and memorials, ensuring that his story and the lessons learned from his experiences will not be forgotten. His life serves as a poignant reminder of the valor and dedication exhibited by countless individuals during one of the most tumultuous periods in American history.
