On June 18, 2025, we took the day and went on a little local adventure, stopping at a few locations that we covered in our new book series. We needed to get some photographs for the book; however, we took advantage of being at a couple of these locations with reported paranormal activity and performed mini investigations.

Mysteries of the Mahoning Valley Day Trip

Normally, our blog posts cover a single story or location; however, on this day we stopped at several. All of the locations are within the boundaries of the Mahoning Valley in northeastern Ohio. We produced a video from this adventure, which you can follow along with below. In our video, we make reference to the books we just recently published, and we will be posting more information about these locations to our Patreon supporters, which basically means we will be posting chapters from our books to our paid research supporters.

The Forgotten Salt Springs

The first location we went to, since it is pretty close to our house, is the salt springs of the area. At one time, this area covered 3-4 acres and was known for its natural salt springs, which were marked on early maps. Indigenous people and early settlers would come to the area either to boil off the water for salt or to hunt, as the wildlife was extremely abundant. Regrettably, the railroad buried the salt springs about 30 feet under the rails when it entered the area. We have found historical records that show a number of Native American massacres also took place in the region. There are paranormal reports throughout the area, so we took a few moments to conduct a spirit box session while sitting in our car. That session is in our video. We will post more detailed information about the area to our paid Patreon supporters and include it as a chapter in one of our books.

We have more information about this location on the corresponding PANICd.com page for this location.

Oakwood Cemetery

In our books, we talked about Calvary Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery in Youngstown, but we needed to go to Oakwood Cemetery in Warren to see some of the notable graves there as well. These are the graves of the Perkins family and the Packard family (among some other graves). We even stopped by the grave of the first interment in the cemetery. We left a Google Maps review about the cemetery due to the fact that the office workers were extremely helpful working with us to find a couple of the gravesites that we had on our research list. Thank you for your support!

We have more information about this cemetery on the corresponding PANICd.com page.

Perkins Park

Our book, Mysteries of the Mahoning Valley, features the story of the Perkins family. We have conducted a full investigation at the Kinsman House, have produced a simulated Victorian wake in the Upton House, and have been on the grounds of the Perkins mansion on several occasions. One thing we never did in the past was go down by the river in Perkins Park to the location where a tragic event took place related to the Perkins family. During this trip, we did just that, and we conducted a spirit box session while we were there. That session is also in the video above. We will be posting more about the Perkins family to our Patreon supporters.

Alaska Packard

We stopped for lunch on the way home in Lordstown. We wanted to find one other grave, which will be featured in a future chapter of another volume about the Mahoning Valley; that grave belongs to Alaska Packard. We first drove by the Paltzgroff Cemetery in Lordstown, where Alaska, a sister to the Packard brothers, is buried, on our way to lunch. We did find the grave after resting up a little bit and heading back out on the search. We will make you watch the video to find out the importance of this grave.

We had a wonderful adventure looking for and finding these locations. It has been a while since we have taken the time to just get lost looking for these historical and haunted locations. We hope to have many, many more adventures to come.
