In June of 2025, we traveled to Baltimore, Maryland, to visit several historic and haunted locations. One of the stops on our list was The Horse You Came In On Saloon, which is reportedly the last place where Poe stopped for a drink before being found in a delirious state shortly before his death.

During our stay in Baltimore, we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Inner Harbor. The Horse You Came In On Saloon at first looked as if it was within walking distance via Google Maps; however, we learned otherwise when we were out walking in the heat the day we selected to go and visit this location. After walking down to the Star-Spangled Banner House and Museum, we decided to take an Uber the rest of the way down to Fells Point. Once we arrived, we were ready for a refreshment (and maybe some lunch), but the tavern was not open yet. We decided to wait around until they opened up. A wonderful excuse to go inside a haunted and historical location.
While we waited around outside in the heat, we began shooting for our video. We were not sure at the time if we would be able to get inside the building, so we started the intro and began talking about the historical significance of the building and how it was related to Edgar Allan Poe. While we were recording, we noticed workers arriving at the saloon. Finally, someone came to set up signs, so we knew they would open soon. You can check out our video about this location here:
The following are some pictures that we took while we were hanging out waiting for the saloon to open. You can find more by clicking on the "More photos" button below.
We were going to snack at the saloon, but the menu made us want an early lunch. We wanted water since we had none, and the ice water was as good as the food. Shawn was pleased that they had BLT sandwiches, and Marianne ordered some chicken fingers.

We rarely take photos of our food, but hey, this is allegedly the last place that Edgar Allan Poe had visited before he passed. He may have eaten here as well.

While we were waiting for our food to arrive, Marianne took the camera and recorded some video while walking around inside the saloon. You can see that footage in our video above; however, here are some photos from inside:
You may be wondering as you read this post why we would even want to stop here.
